“YOU ARE THE MAP” WORKSHOP

Supported by Fem Flava, In this offering we explored how mapmaking has been used for erasure, restriction and harm for colonialism and imperialism across the world. Empowering your voice, knowledge and lived experiences, participants were invited for a personal mapmaking session to reimagine this form of creation as a tool of individual and collective liberation. We explored concepts of mapmaking from cultures rooted in preserving and honoring life, land and the connections we hold. Through collective learning, writing and free drawing, we made maps as a practice of honoring our creative energy, witnessing our experiences, and archiving the knowledge we want to pass on to future generations.
